What is Jewish Renewal?

From Our Rabbi's Desk

Rabbi Zalman Schacter-Shalomi

Reb Sue Morningstar

The Wisdom of the Rabbis

Sue Morningstar's Providence ER Dedication Blessing,
May 5, 2004:

I'd like to offer a prayer for healing for all those who pass through these doorways:
Our patients and their families, the dedicated medical, nursing, administrative and support staff, the housekeepers, the dispatchers and the ambulance drivers, the beautiful and courageous volunteers, the creators who conceived of and designed and constructed this building, to all the benefactors who contributed their time and money and creativity to this project, and to all of us:

From deep within the heart of my soul, now let the healing begin.
Anah, ayl nah, r'fah nah lah. Heal our bodies, open our hearts, awaken our minds, Shechinah.

A special prayer for all the healers among us, from the Prayer of Maimonides, the great rabbi, philosopher and physician of the Middle Ages:

In Your eternal providence, You have chosen me to watch over the life and health of Your creatures. Support me almighty G-d in these great labors, that they may benefit humankind, for without your help, not even the least thing will succeed. Inspire me with love for my art and for Your creatures. Do not allow thirst for profit, ambition, for renown and admiration to interfere with my profession. May there never rise in me the notion that I know enough, but give me the strength and leisure and zeal to enlarge my knowledge. Preserve the strength of my body and my soul, that I may ever be ready to cheerfully help and support rich or poor, good and bad, enemy as well as friend. In the sufferer, let me see only the human being.

Baruch atah adonai, elohaynu melech ha'olam, she'hechiyahnu, v'keeyimahnu, v'heegiyahnu lazmahn hahzeh.

Blessed are you Creator of the universe, who has kept us alive, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this very moment.
